Life in Colour. Colour, yes, and pattern too- the more the merrier!
Kate Austin Designs bring patterns and colour into everyday lives-- and adventures, too.
Kate Austin Designs start in my sunny studio in Toronto where I draw, paint and sew- inspired by my friends and family, the flowers in my garden, incredible historical and global textiles- Japanese, Indian, Russian, Mexican, Peruvian- and the natural world. I spend lots of time outdoors riding my bike, taking pics and sketching as much as I can.
I care about the fabric we use. It is natural, heirloom quality, washable, organic, kind to the earth and fair to the people whose hard work goes into making it. Above all, Kate Austin designs are wearable and beautiful. Timeless. Chic and fun.
It's exciting to work with skilled, passionate artisans and craftspeople- fair trade of course, always- Mehera Shaw in Jaipur, Rajastan, India - fabulous block printers and hand dyers- and Pimalpaka in Lima, Peru - wonderful handweavers and pompom makers! I also love to work with licensing partners- Andrews McMeel Publishing, Pottery Barn Kids, Mudpuppy/Galison, Nuvango -just some of the wonderful clients I have had the pleasure to work with. I am all about collaborations- if you have a project you'd like to share, let me know-- email@example.com-- let's talk!
